The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, Georgia, is a massive place where you can see underwater life up close.
It’s the biggest aquarium in the USA and the second biggest in the world!
Imagine a water container so large that it can hold over 10 million gallons of water – that’s how big this place is. They have both saltwater and freshwater areas that are filled with all sorts of sea creatures.
This incredible underwater world was made possible thanks to Bernard Marcus, who co-founded the Home Depot stores. He gave more than $250 million to build this aquarium. And, the Coca-Cola Company gave the land for it. It opened its doors to the public in 2005.
Inside this aquarium, there’s this giant tank called the Ocean Voyager. It’s filled with saltwater and is home to sharks, whales, and many other sea animals.
There’s also a special tank just for dolphins where they put on shows that include tricks and synchronized swimming.
An interesting effort by the Georgia Aquarium is their work to help save the Beluga whales. They’re trying to have these whales give birth in captivity, which is a way to increase their numbers and protect the species.
So, how about a private tour of this aquarium?
In the below video from George Mavrakis, you can see how big this aquarium actually is. Don’t miss the unicorn tang in the video. It’s one of kind fish.
